President Obama

Out with the old, in with the new.

Now, the real work can begin. Good luck, Mr. President.

This election can’t come soon enough … and I mean it this time

I’ve caught some flak for the tone of my voter suppression post, and to an extent, I agree. I was definitely caught up in the partisan rhetoric, and I probably hate that more than I hate voter suppression. It is that partisan garbage that is what is tearing this country apart, and instead of trying to rise above that and just making sure that people know what to do if challenged, I got all partisan upside your head. That, itself, is wrong. This isn’t about parties and divisions, this is about your right to vote as an American, liberal or conservative.

So, remember:

  • Your vote is guaranteed.
  • Be sure to get a provisional ballot if challenged.
  • Bring ID.
  • Contact 1-866-OUR-VOTE and/or the local media if you are hassled or challenged, inside or outside the polling place.

And don’t get caught up with all the partisan nonsense. It just makes this country come apart even more, and doesn’t add to, well, anything. It is YOUR VOTE, not a party’s.

Sarah Palin, the hypocrite, also likes to “spread the wealth”

Hmmm. Who is the socialist now, Ms. Palin?

A few weeks before she was nominated for Vice-President, she told a visiting journalist—Philip Gourevitch, of this magazine—that “we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs.”

The Republicans really need to vet their candidates, eh?

Don’t let Republican thugs stop you from voting

I’m getting really fed up with Republican attempts to suppress voting. For a party that claims to profess to “loving freedom”, they seem to revel in the idea of preventing honest Americans from voting, a right guaranteed in the Constitution. Not only do they put the onus on the citizen to prove themselves, but they also spread lies about what happens when you are challenged.

The fact is NO ONE CAN TAKE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE AWAY. No one. Not that GOP thug waiting at the door of the polling place. Not the person at the table when you check in. NO ONE. If someone challenges you, you challenge them right now. Make sure they are an official challenge and ask to see ID. Take their name and address down so you can report them. Demand a provisional ballot right away and report this fascist behavior to the local media so they know that people want to take your rights away. You can also contact the Voter Suppression Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE. Do not take “No” for an answer. If you want to be sure that you are OK, bring your ID and a utility bill (or the like) to prove your identity but this is NOT needed to cast a provisional ballot. Do not doubt the desire of the right to stop you from votingThis is your country, not theirs, and although they will try anything to stop voter turnout, you have the power to tell them to take their challenge and shove it.

Fantasy Debate League – Final Standings

So, the debates are done and the “big wait” begins. Before you crawl into that lead-lined bunker, here are the final results of the Fantasy Debate League!

Without further ado … Congratulations to the 2008 FDL Champion

The Guns of Bristol

Bristol destroyed the competition, beating the second place team by 62 points, thanks to Bristol’s astute choice of “tax” and “billion”. Bristol also scored well with “health care plan” in debate 3.

However, Bristol didn’t win the Debate 3 match. Instead, that went to VPILF Hunter, who scored 154 points thanks to “dollar” and some excessive “dependence on foreign oil”. Both Barack/Secrets and I Admire Your Wife made leaps in the standings with good Debate 3 showings.

Final Standings (points listed as Debate 1/Debate 2/Total)

  1. The Guns of Bristol: 197/146/343
  2. VPILF Hunter: 127/154/281
  3. Barack Obama and the Chamber of Secrets: 105/136/241
  4. NoBamas: 113/117/230
  5. Team WWRS: 149/80/229
  6. Don’t Blame Me, I Voted for Kodos: 94/117/211
  7. Damn, It Feels Good to be a Maverick: 88/54/142
  8. I Admire Your Wife: 33/62/95
  9. Team Hussein: 60/15/75
  10. Bail, Baby, Bail! Bushwick Inferno: 35/16/51
See you in four years!

Sarah Palin is a liar

I told myself I wasn’t going to do this, but this just pisses me off too much.

Sarah Palin is a liar. No “ifs, ands and buts” about it.

The “Troopergate” report clearly says that Sarah Palin, as governor, abused her power and broke the law:

Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act.”

And what does she say now:

During an interview with the local CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, Palin stated flat out that the Legislative Council’s report had found that she did not abuse her power:

PALIN: [T]he report that came out also was very clear in that there was no unethical or unlawful behavior on my part. … No abuse of power there at all.

Palin is lying through her teeth. And does anyone care? No. They’re too busy trying to scare people from voting.

Let’s make sure that doesn’t happen. Show up to the polls, vote, and if anyone gives you trouble, tell them that they are the ones who hate freedom and tell them to step aside. This is your country, not the conservatives and their cronies. You can vote, so do it, and don’t let the hatemongers stop you.
